ME&E Lab
From one of the most vocally plastic birds – the Drongos – to the great speciator – the White-eyes – and to the slithery tree snakes to the furry giant squirrels, we aim at exploring the evolutionary affinities and relationships of an extremely diverse array of fauna using multiple traits such as vocalization, pigmentation, behavior and genomics.
Here we use conventional techniques such as PCR, gel electrophoresis and more modern methods such as next generation sequencing. We bring in a spectrum of samples from field stations located around the island, representing unique island ecosystems. We also collaborate with other laboratories and organizations such as the Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Forest Department to expand our horizons and widen our scope of work.
LME&E thrives to paint the Earthly canvas in the vibrant colors of life in miniscule detail…
